This Higonokami knife is original product; designed by Ito Co Ltd and produced by Nagaokanekoma Seisakusho which is the only blacksmith can produce "HIGONOKAMI". The resin is sprayed over the colored metal sheath for non-slip. Trade name is "MIZUSHIBUKI" means splash for its appearance.

Care and Maintenance

Please follow the instructions below to ensure a lifetime of Japanese knives.

  1. Apply mild detergent on a soft sponge or wet cloth to clean. Do not use bleach. Do not use dishwasher.
  2. Use a clean dry cloth to wipe and dry it immeadiately after every use.
  3. Use sharpening stones to sharpen Japanese knives do not use a sharpening steel
  4. For less freaquently used knives apply oil very thinly after the knives are sharpened cleaned and dried.

About HIGONOKAMI

Higonokami is a Japanese traditional folding pocketknife. Manufacturing Higonokami began in the 1890s. Higonokami was very popular among children as one of the stationery sharpen a pencil around the late 1950s but gradually disappeared due to the spread of cutter knife and pencil sharpener. However in Japan it has become a quiet boom among avid collectors in recent years.In the heyday of 1950s the number of blacksmith producing a Higonokami were around 40 in the Hyogo Miki City but Nagaokanekoma Seisakusho is a only maker at present. The registered trademark "HIGONOKAMI" can be used only by Nagaokanekoma Seisakusho.
